Gold sponsor – Ingenie
Since formation, ingenie has disrupted the market and established itself as one of the leading insurance brands for young drivers.
ingenie is all about helping young people become better, safer drivers. By fitting a black box in the car, ingenie builds a picture of its customers’ unique driving styles so they can be treated as individuals and earn discounts for good driving.
ingenie provides regular driving feedback – including speed, acceleration, braking and cornering – both online and through the ingenie app. Customers can keep an eye on how they are driving and how much they are on track to save. Put simply, the concept is ‘drive well, pay less’.
Silver sponsor – Vauxhall
Vauxhall Motors has been manufacturing vehicles continuously since 1903. Vauxhall’s range spans all mainstream sectors of the vehicle market with best-selling model names such as ADAM, Astra, Corsa, Cascada, Mokka, VIVA, Zafira and Insignia regularly topping the sales charts.
The Vauxhall Motors team is made up of thousands of people across the country, all working together to build and bring innovative vehicles to the UK’s roads. Around 35,000 people work across Vauxhall’s plants, warehouse, retailers and head office in Luton. Vauxhall OnStar is one example, providing drivers with a personal on-board assistant able to carry out a range of functions including Vehicle Diagnostics, Stolen Vehicle Assistance and Automatic Crash Response. Vauxhall OnStar is available across all our passenger car range.
Luncheon sponsor – Solon Security
Solon Security is the UK’s leading supplier of quality crime prevention and community safety products. We have over 20 years’ experience of working in partnership with our customers to deliver effective solutions and are proud to have developed a reputation as industry leaders in quality.
Over the years we have worked closely alongside customers within Police, Local Authorities and Road Safety Charities to produce quality, innovative road safety solutions nationwide ranging from hi-vis accessories and lighting, to education and awareness products.
At this year’s Young Driver Focus, we will be officially launching our latest and greatest road safety solution: the Defender Signal Blocker. This comes in response to the recent crackdown on mobile phone use at the wheel and the increased penalties for those caught using their phone while driving, particularly young drivers who could lose their licence entirely.
The Defender Signal Blocker provides a simple, convenient solution to the issue; a quality, scratch-proof mobile phone storage pouch containing special material that, when sealed, blocks the receiving of all calls, messages and notifications, without the need to switch off the device. This removes the temptation for drivers to check their phones whilst on the move, with all missed alerts appearing within 30 seconds of removing the phone at their destination.
Be sure to visit our stand at the event for more information and to view the product yourself. You can also request details and samples by using our contact details below.
In addition to its B2B Road Safety Apps, Romex is introducing DriveOn Family as a new concept in safe driving aimed at young drivers.
Distracted driving is the fastest growing factor in accidents on UK roads, currently responsible for 26% of all accidents. TheDriveOn Family app is a new way to ensure young drivers are protected from the temptation of their mobile phone.
With the DriveOn Family app installed a ‘Guardian’ can monitor the driving behaviour of any driver they wish to pair with. With DriveOn, safe driving becomes fun driving as good behaviour is rewarded. You can compare your family members and find out who is the best driver.
So, is your newly passed daughter a better driver than your 70 year old father with 50 years of experience?!
When your drivers have the ‘driver’ part of the app installed on their phone you are assured that they cannot make or receive calls or receive notifications of text, email, social media etc. while the app detects they are moving. These notifications are available as soon as the journey ends, along with a positive and fun message from DriveOn congratulating them on a safe journey.
Changing young driver behaviour away from believing it is OK to use a phone while driving is going to be a difficult task. It requires everyone to lead by example and try something that is new and fun. Mobile phones and driving are perfect partners but we need to change the way they work together. DriveOn, have fun!

Nextbase UK was established in 1999 to design and manufacture high quality, affordable, and safe portable entertainment systems. With its background in safety, Nextbase UK pioneered a range of Dash Cams with a number of high street retailers, including Halfords, Currys and Maplin Electronics, which are currently the most popular in the UK. As well as Dash Cams, Nextbase also manufactures in-car entertainment products, such as DVD players and mounting systems for tablets.
Nextbase is the UK’s largest manufacturer of Dash Cams owning a 76% share of the UK market by volume, according to data acquired by independent retail analysts GfK. Sales of Dash Cams – small windscreen-mounted cameras that record a motorist’s view of the road – increased by 395% in 2015, making them the fastest growing consumer electronics category.
GfK research predicts the adoption rate of Dash Cams by the UK market will steadily increase until 2019, by which point 14% of the total UK market will own a Dash Cam. In the short term, the number of Dash Cams installed in UK vehicles is expected to double between 2015 and 2016.

Vision Express is the UK’s third largest optical retailer. With almost 390 stores and over 4000 employees, nationwide, the national optical retailer is proud to spearhead initiatives that positively impact the lives of customers and teams.
In support of its commitment to: ‘Vision. Taken Seriously’, Vision Express aims to help improve road safety through its ‘Eye Tests save Lives’ campaign, which raises awareness of the issue of driver sight among drivers and industry organisations, and encourages more people to get their sight tested to improve road safety standards.
Independent research commissioned by Vision Express found:
- 92 per cent of people believe they meet the legal eyesight requirement for driving, yet over 60 per cent cannot identify what the requirement is
- 76 per cent want recent eye tests to be mandatory when renewing a driving licence
- 94 per cent of drivers don’t realise you can lose 40 per cent of your vision without noticing
This research supports findings that suggest driver sight is not a road safety priority for industry bodies. For example, the latest Highways England road safety report sets out a strategic plan, addressing issues that impair driving such as fatigue, distraction, alcohol and drugs – with no reference to sight impediment.
MPs and road safety partners such as Brake and GEM Motoring Assist have supported Vision Express’s ‘Eye Tests Save Lives’ campaign, which will continue into 2017 with more high profile campaigning.

Since 2001, Westcotec has been at the forefront of the vehicle activated sign industry. Based in the centre of Norfolk, we have grown to become one of the biggest suppliers of quality vehicle-activated signs in the UK.
Using the latest LED and radar technology, we are able to provide effective solutions to most traffic related safety problems using light emitting symbols and legends for warning signs and roundels from the Traffic Signs Regulations & General Directions (TSRGD). Westcotec give a full six-year UK warranty with all fixed signage.
Portable, lightweight signs can be carried and installed on different sites by a single person. They are battery-powered and include a full 12-month warranty covering everything apart from vandalism, impact damage and theft. Extra bracket sets can be purchased in order to easily move the sign without having to move the bracket.
Interactive road signs: consultancy, installation and service
The installation of interactive signing needs careful thought and design. We can provide skilled, professional advice and guidance to ensure that clients are able to achieve effective schemes at best value. We can install and service your signs. We can repair and maintain other manufacturer’s signs, subject to survey.
Externally triggered signs
A number of sensors and triggers from external sources can be used to activate a set display on an LED sign. An example of such system is a low bridge warning sign to divert over height vehicles, as well as a flood warning sign which displays depth of the water.
Solar and wind power
Where a location lacks mains power or where mains power costs are prohibitive, solar and/or wind power is used on signs and systems. These signs are powered by 12V batteries recharged by solar panels and/or wind generators. These have a low-maintenance requirement and are vandal-resistant. If you are considering this as an option then a site survey is essential. This is provided free of charge.
Our declared aim is to bring the technology of the future, to today’s roads. In-depth discussions with clients on their specific requirements has enabled Westcotec to gain the most comprehensive experience with road safety systems in England.
